Die Palette der Stile, die Flittiger auf “Beyond the Strings” bedient, ist vielfältig: Fusion-, Latin-, Jazz-, Prog.-, Country- und Klassikelemente bilden das Spektrum der musikalische Ideen der neuen CD. Nach “Will We Be There”, der erfolgreichen, überwiegend akustische Stimmung transportierenden CD mit Thorsten Schmidt, nun ein etwas erweitertes musikalisches Konzept.
Mit “Adventures”, “Belice”, “French Connection” und “Tune Patrol” bewegt sich Flittiger jetzt deutlich rhytmischer ausgelegt auf Fusion- und Latinpfaden. “Beyond the strings” das Titelstück der CD, tangiert fast schon Countryfeel. Unüberhörbar sind die musikalischen Vorbilder aus den frühen Siebzigern (Genesis, Yes, Gentle Giant, Hackett) bei “Save the Wave”, “Caravan of Dinosaurs” und “The Battle on Crimson Dawn”. Dabei gelingt es Flittiger eine eigene musikalische Färbung des Genres zu kreieren. Auf “Blossom Bridge”, mit Thorsten Schmidt, überwiegt eine konzertante Stimmung versetzt mit einzelnen klassischen Elementen. Mit dem Konzertgitarrenthema seiner Komposition “Nexus”, liefert Schmidt eine geniale Vorlage für Flittigers Instrumentierungs- und Arrangementfantasien.
Nicht nur Thorsten Schmidt (”Blossom Bridge”, “Save the Wave”, “Nexus”) ist wieder mit von der Partie, auch Michael Bender und erstmalig Sven Perband (Bass) sind auf der CD (”French Connection”) zu hören.
